Skin Food Black Sugar Scrub Mask [Review]

Skin Food Black Sugar Scrub Mask [Review]

I have dry, flaky skin. I also have a lot of dead skin on my face because my skin is dry. So, twice a week I exfoliate my face. I have been using this product for about 4 months now and I love it. It is Skin Food’s Black Sugar Scrub Mask. It smells SO good too. It may not look as nice as other scrubs but you can get past it. It comes in a plastic container and unfortunately, no spatula. If you’re like me though, I just use a popsicle stick to scoop the product out.

I wet my face before using this product and then I scoop it out and use a good amount of water to make it into a sort of “paste”. It’s not too thick in consistency nor is it too thin. You’ll get used to eyeballing how much water and product to mix together after a while. This is a good scrub. It definitely exfoliates and leaves my skin feeling soft and supple. The directions suggest after massaging the sugar into your skin to leave the mixture on your face for a few minutes as if it were a mask. Sometimes I do this, sometimes I don’t. I don’t think either has really given me different results from one another.

Be cautious though. If you do not use enough water, this scrub can be very abrasive on your skin.

bss

Pros:

  • Good exfoliator
  • Smells delicious
  • Skin is soft and supple afterwards

Cons:

  • Can be abrasive
  • No spatula (not a deal breaker though)

Overall:

5/5 stars from me! I love it!

Once this is done, I will be using a new exfoliator, which should be soon! I’m excited to try it out too.

Mizon All-in-One Snail Repair Cream [Review]

Mizon All-in-One Snail Repair Cream [Review]

By now, the snail mucus craze is taking over the world. I mean, it’s been quite a few years since this ingredient has appeared in Korean and Japanese skincare and now, it’s been available to consumers in the USA for quite some time. One of more popular brands with higher concentrations of snail slime is Mizon. I have to say, after reading all the reviews for the Mizon All-in-One Snail Repair Cream, I have to say, I’m rather disappointed.

mizonaio

The product claims: skin regeneration, anti-wrinkle, pores, management, nutrition, moisturizing, elastic. Containing snail slime filtrate 92% by Strengthen self-sustaining superior skin Fine lines and wrinkles management Trouble signs of sensitive skin care (direct action) Sagging pores and management Moisturizing, nutritional supplements Protected from external stimuli Elastic skin texture .

I have to say that the only thing it did was moisturize my skin..and it didn’t blow me out of the water either. This moisturizer/cream was the same as any moisturizer I can get from the drugstore. In fact, it reminded me of the CeraVe moisturizer I get from the drugstore. The consistency is almost the same as that one, but the Mizon is more expensive.

While the Mizon cream moisturized, I didn’t see any face-lifting, pore managing, fine lines, and wrinkle-management that it promises. It’s all very mediocre. I have been using this for about 7 months and I can really say, it is just so-so. No improvements..but nothing bad came out of either. I will not be repurchasing this item. Perhaps I will try a different product from Mizon in the future.

Pros:

  • Good consistency
  • Didn’t break me out
  • Good for sensitive skin

Cons:

  • Didn’t do as promised
  • Expensive for what it is
  • Drugstore brand and this one is no different
  • Didn’t see improvement (but didn’t see a decline either)

Overall:

3/5 Stars The product was just s0-so and I can get the same “results” and moisturizing features from a cheaper drugstore brand.

Akatsuki no Yona

Akatsuki no Yona

I love Akatsuki no Yona and cannot wait for this anime to come out. Each week I am tormented by having to wait 7 days before I see Hak’s beautiful manliness! What can I say? I am all for Hak x Yona!! Screw Su Won!!! Hak can lick honey off my fingers any day! He can also give me that “I want you look” every damn second. Damn it Raijuu…

Different eh? How am I different? xD Hak is so arrogant and he knows Yona feels something for him somewhere!! She just won’t admit it yet..or isn’t aware of it.

Kuroshitsuji: Book of Murder

Kuroshitsuji: Book of Murder

I’m a huge Kuroshitsuji fan. I’m pretty open to most animes but tend to gravitate towards shoujo. However, every now and then, I find a gem that is outside the shoujo genre and I love it. Kuroshitsuji is one of them. If you’re not watching it, you’re missing out! I highly insist anime fans to watch this one!! Some of my favorite seiyuus are in it!

Sebastian = Hirato (Karneval)

Ciel Phantomhive = Haruhi (Ouran High School Host Club)

Prince Soma Asman Kadar = Tomoe (Kamisama Hajimemashita)

That is just to name a few! Anyhow, I really like this dark adult anime. Some people are under the impression that anime is just for kids, but I have to disagree. This one is a good one that adults would enjoy. There is drama, action, a little bit of comedy, and a supernatural element in this anime/manga. I think it’s a good one to watch. There is no romance in it, but the story and plot is great and it keeps the story going forward. Plus, some of the characters (ahem, Sebastian) are just hot. If you like the servant and master relationship too, you would like this anime. However, what is great about this anime is that sometimes it feels as though Sebastian is the master.

If you’re reading the manga and haven’t watched the anime, I have a few thoughts on this. Basically, the manga was so popular that season 1 came out. However, since the manga was not fully developed and is still ongoing, some of the episodes in season 1 never take place. Season 2 is just crap and was basically fan service because it just got that popular. That being said, season 2 of Black Butler was awful. None of it took place and it was bad fan service at that. Book of Circus basically acts as though season 2 never even happened and picks up where some of season 1 leaves off. When I say “leave off” I mean that in season 1, everything happens in the manga as it does in the anime up to about episode 16, albeit some episodes are filler episodes and also did not take place in the manga. After episode 16, that is when Book of Circus picks up. Therefore, here is my suggestion to those who want to watch Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji.

Watch Season 1 up to episode 16. After episode 16, watch Book of Circus. After Book of Circus, watch Book of Murder. Then you can go back and finish season 1 and watch season 2. However, if you’re a big fan of the manga, you’ll be really disappointed. The end of season 1 wasn’t terrible..but the free license they took with the storyline was awful. Queen Victoria’s character is just so whack and not like the manga at all.

I just hope that after Book of Murder, there will be a season 3. I don’t know if I would enjoy the campania arc though. The school arc would be okay and interesting to watch..but that would mean the campania arc has to come first :( Too many plot holes and too many missing characters…I mean, what will they do with the Undertaker?!

Book of Murder just came out with English subtitles and unlike Book of Circus, this one is being released as a 2-part OVA. Therefore, it is not a full season as the others were. It makes me sad but makes me happy because Book of Murder arc was one of my favorite stories in the manga.

Overall: 5/5 stars!!!

Kamisama Hajimemashita Season 2

Kamisama Hajimemashita Season 2

I love shoujo anime. I think that it’s cute. In fact, the more blushing, the better! I’m really enjoying Kamisama Hajimemashita season 2. I LOVED season one and watched it a bunch of times. I enjoyed the OVAs as well! When I saw Kirihito/Akura-Ou show up in the last episode and also in the OVA, I knew there would be a season 2! I mean, how could the animators not make one after dropping in an open ending using Kirihito!?

I LOVE Tomoe and Nanami. If you’re reading the manga, I really hope that there are enough episodes in season 2 to cover the tengu arc as well as Nanami’s time travel arc to find out more about Tomoe and Kirihito and cure Tomoe of his curse. Waiting a week is too much for a new episode! I’m super sad about it but super happy. Bring on the blushing!

I really love this anime. I love shoujo so it’s nice that it’s shoujo fantasy. I like slice of life and school animes, but sometimes it can get a bit redundant. I like some action, therefore, Kamisama Hajimemashita is a fun one. Another one that I am really enjoying is Akatsuki no Yona. I suggest you guys try it. If you like this one, you’ll like the other. Besides, who doesn’t love Son Hak?! (So hot!)

Etude House AC Clinic Pink Powder Spot set

Etude House AC Clinic Pink Powder Spot set

I’ve always suffered from acne since I was 10 years old. I tried everything I could to get it under control and alas, nothing worked. If you’re like me, you’re just as frustrated. I mentioned before that benzoyl peroxide doesn’t work for me and neither does salicylic. Retin-A certainly breaks me out and makes me worse. ProActive never worked for me—made me red as a tomato and neither did the other brand, Acne Free. What I did find was that sulfate worked sort of but not really. So..what did I do? Plain old soap and water and hoped that my acne would go away when puberty was over.

Fast forward into college and post-college and my acne is finally at bay. Every now and then I get a break out. I follow a rigorous night and day time face routine to keep my skin looking nice. Then all of a sudden, a few weeks ago, the left side of my face started breaking out. Nothing worked. I tried my hand at benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid again. No avail. Why would I think it would work this time? Skin changes over time. Mine obviously still wasn’t taking. Therefore, I tried Etude House AC Clinic Powder Spot set which I purchased over amazon. I figured it was $14..why not give it a shot? I’ve been having a great time with Korean skin care brands and products.

EHACSo what do I think if this product? It did not work for me. This product is very close to products such as Bye-Bye Blemish. There is the pink drying powder at the bottom and alcohol in it. They’re separated cause of the densities. To use it, you have to wait until the liquid and powder completely separate. Take a cotton swab (provided) and dip it straight down until you get some of the pink powder on the swab. Then you just dab it on your blemishes. While the powder did dry out my blemishes, it didn’t do much in the prevention of new ones or completely getting rid of pre-existing blemishes. It didn’t even make them a little less red. The Pink Powder Water that came with it was okay. It is like the pink powder spot but you can use this for the day time–BUT NOT really. It leaves a weird white residue and does not dry on clear. I used these products before bedtime to let the powder do its magic. It rubbed off somewhat during the night unfortunately. Bye-bye blemish did not do this–however, I also did not like bye-bye blemish. The consistency was just better.

Also, the consistency of these products isn’t what I expected. It wasn’t as solid as bye bye blemish and I found myself re-dipping to get enough powder on the swab.

I think the problem is that it is not for my skin type. I have adult acne now and this, I could see working for teenagers who have acne due to puberty. However, mine could be hormonal. Therefore this product was just okay.

Pros:

  • drying
  • sanitary

Cons:

  • Does not help mature skin
  • Consistency isn’t thick enough
  • Rubs off easily
  • Doesn’t get rid of blemishes/cystic acne
  • Redness/inflammation only lessens by a little

Overall rating

  • 3/5 stars because it is not for mature skin but could work for teen skin
Another update on my Japanese Digital Perm

Another update on my Japanese Digital Perm

I am back again with another post on my hair! So towards the end of last year I got a digital perm and it has held since then. My curls are a lot looser but it is still just as pretty. I am using product to keep my hair curly when I need it to “stay”. Once again, when I just let it air dry and don’t twist it, it looks like beach hair. I’m still getting plenty of compliments for both styles whether it be air dried or I twist them dry. Here are photos of my hair-looser, but still princess curly. I pixelated my friends’ faces of course :)

Yes. I am still loving it!

[Guest Post] Parissa Wax Strips Review

[Guest Post] Parissa Wax Strips Review

image2

Hello! I’m Cindy and today I’m going to be going over Parissa Epilatory Wax Strips for Face and Bikini. A few months ago I’ve noticed that I had some “peach fuzz” around my lip and while I’m sure I’m the only person to notice it I felt the need to finally get rid of it.

I took out my trusty tweezers (after rummaging for it since the fiance and I are notorious for losing tweezers) and plucked one hair. OW. Nope. I misjudged how sensitive the area around your upper lip is! I researched on Google for the best (and cheap) waxing strips and found that Parissa had garnered some positive reviews so I made a quick trip to Ulta and purchased a box.

I’ve never waxed before. I understand the basic premise of it from watching movies with overdramatic waxing scenes and from watching people do it in the salon but I’ve never had it done, myself. So, imagine my surprise when I learned the strips could be heated right between your hands! This makes it super convenient and from what I understand, a lot less messy.

image3 image4

The box comes with eight strips with two on each side giving you a total of 16 wax strips to play with. There is about 2 inches of wax on each strip which is perfect for the face and small touch-ups around the bikini area. I can’t imagine someone using such tiny strips down there … that’d be time consuming. Still, even at 2in. the strips were a bit too long for my upper lip area so I cut them in half. Now they’re perfect! I placed the strips on my peach fuzz, pat them down to make sure they stick and grab every last hair, and rip off quickly. I did notice a slight scent to them but it wasn’t too bad.

So how did it go?

I ripped the first one off and with it my little hairs. I’m actually quite surprised since I’ve read other people complain that it doesn’t grab everything. It did leave residue so what I did was use the same strip to pat down and rip off until most of it was gone. The area was still sticky but not as bad as before. The box says the strips can be used several times but I think the mileage on that may vary. I felt like the first 2-3 uses I was able to grab hair and residue but anything after that didn’t. Not bad overall as it did the job!

The box comes with a small vial of Azulene Oil (which is distilled from German Chamomile flowers) that is used to soothe irritated skin after waxing/shaving and to help remove some of the leftover sticky residue from waxing. It will also help with red bumps and ingrown hairs. I couldn’t really make out a scent except that it was sweet? I’m not sure if that makes any sense. Anyway, I popped the top off the vial and dabbed some on my fingers and spread it on my upper lip area. It removed the sticky residue as promised!

I’m not sure about it’s soothing capabilities since my skin handled the waxing like a champ. It was a little red but it went away shortly. I feel like I could probably use my cleansing oil to also remove the sticky residue so there’s that.

Would I buy it again?

I probably would. This box is going to take me a while to get through so I won’t be re-purchasing for a while. I probably won’t use the Azulene Oil again just because I felt like it didn’t really do much for me.

TL;DR

  • Easy to use
  • Convenient for quick touch-ups and traveling
  • Not too expensive
  • Wax had a slight scent but not too overbearing
  • Comes with Azulene Oil to remove leftover sticky residue
Good hair day

Good hair day

I am having an incredibly good hair day. Last night, I realized that my curls were looser and a bit more natural than before. The stylist said that this would happen. The post with my hair was when I still had tight curls after my digi-perm. Now, about 5 washes later, my curls have loosened and I love my hair even more. Here’s a picture. No worries, it was 8AM in the morning and I am tired :) Excuse how terrible I look…but the hair! The hair is fantastic! I twisted and let my hair dry that way and out came romantic cute curls/waves. It didn’t look like beach hair. I love this look and got compliments all day from my co-workers.

So, what’s new today? My skin has broken out in one area. I don’t know if it is because of my pillow and not washing it enough or because I have been eating too much bad foods lately. All I know is that I am distraught and unhappy about my break outs. I have 5 large pimples on the side of my face :(. Unfortunately, there isn’t much I can do about it. I’ve been using Innisfree’s Super Volcanic Clay Pore Mask to dry out that one area. It’s been doing wonders. Speaking of which, the mask is very nice and very good. It’s very cooling when I put it on and it isn’t drying. I love this mask. You can find it here.

Of course, if I dry the pimples out, my skin begins to dry and peel. Thus, I do put on a sleeping pack before I go to bed. And yes, this mask is only done before bedtime for me. I just can’t bring myself to do something like this during the day.

Shiseido Perfect Milk and my digi-permed hair

Shiseido Perfect Milk and my digi-permed hair

perfectmilk

So..it’s been about a week since I last posted about my digital permed hair. All I can say is how much I love it. I LOVE IT. It looks great. On days where I just scrunch and dry, it looks like I hit the beach. On other days where I twist and dry, it comes out to beautiful princess curls. I love it. My ends aren’t damaged. In fact, a digital perm is less damaging than a regular perm. Let’s get this straight as well, the curls are more prominent when DRY, not when it is wet. I believe that is the difference between digital perms and regular perms. But hey, I don’t know much about regular perms, cold waves, etc. so I could be wrong as well!

Here is a picture of me when I did the twist and dry method vs just letting it air dry without twisting. The curls are so nice. Oh, first is a picture of me sitting in the salon. The curlers are very heavy and when all was said and done, I am pretty sure there was an extra 5-8 lbs extra on my head because of the curls. The 2nd photo is of me a few days later with the curls still intact and beautiful :)

So, what do you think? Beautiful right?!

Well, now moving on. I’ve recently discovered..well, not recently, but I do know for the longest time my skin was so oily. I used to use a lot of different products for my skin that was aimed at oily proned skin. It was only until I did a lot of research as to why my face was not clearing up from acne or why I kept breaking out and why my face is so oily…that I realized my face was too dry! It was over compensating for the products I used that dried out my skin even more. I didn’t realize that my skin was so dry. Could this have really been the issue? Even before I used any products my face was oily…therefore it couldn’t have been dry…or so I thought. What more could I do? I tried everything, why not try this? Thus, my journey began with products for combination skin and dry skin. I definitely do have dry skin.

Think of it like this, our skin is like a desert. We need to hydrate and moisturize our skin to lock in the moisture so we don’t get so oily. Now, after using various products, the only oily parts of my face is my nose and that is quite normal. Why am I talking about all of this? I find that for dry skin and sensitive skin like mine, I like to use a milky cleanser. I’m not sure how to describe a milky cleanser but that it is moisturizing and milk/lotiony feeling. It hydrates very well and very moisturizing. My holy grail milk cleanser is Shiseido’s Perfect Milk. It is like Shiseido’s Perfect Whip except it is a tad bit more moisturizing and perfect for dry skin. I only need a pea sized amount of this stuff and it foams and lathers up very nicely.  I use this cleanser after I use an oil cleanser to take off my make-up from the day and other dirty build up.

Pros:

  • Moisturizing
  • Light feeling
  • Good for sensitive skin

Cons:

  • Packaging kind of sucks–wish it were a pump bottle
  • Super thick formula;actually running out quicker than I expected even though I only use a pea sized amount

Overall:

  • 4/5 stars

So there you have it. Need a milk cleanser? Try Shiseido Perfect Milk!
